Butte County is a county located in the state of South Dakota. The total population of Butte County in 2020 was 10,243. The current county seat in Butte County is Belle Fourche.

It was formed in 1883.

It was named for Hills in the county.

NOTE - There are many rules that must be followed for Butte County requesters to obtain records. The office has opening times of 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. MST from Monday to Friday. To get records in Butte County, photo identification is needed. State IDs and driver's licenses will do just fine. Only public record applications put in writing will be accepted in Butte County.
