Aurora County is a county found in the state of South Dakota. A local census found that Aurora County had 2,747 people in 2020. The county seat is Plankinton.

It was created in 1879 and was organized in 1881.

It was named for Aurora, the Roman goddess of the dawn, was created by the Dakota Territory on 1 October 1879.

NOTE - Aurora County has several rules that must be followed when it comes to obtaining records. Aurora County requesters must purchase records between 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. CST from Monday to Friday. Photo ID is needed to purchase records in Aurora County.
